The Council meeting on April 10th began with an open discussion about refreshing the Fellowship Hall and also later discussed concerns about the continued loss of the sanctuary roof shingles. Many creative ideas emerged during the discussion about the Fellowship Hall that focused on cosmetic updates including:
Replacing ceiling tiles
Removing wallpaper
Consolidating bulletin boards
Renovating the old storage area to match the rest of the hall
Installing different window treatments
Applying a fresh coat of paint
The next step involves reviewing feasibility and developing cost estimates to present to the congregation for both the roof and Fellowship Hall updates. We're seeking volunteers with experience in design and construction to form a small committee to begin this process. Please contact any Trustee if you'd like to volunteer or learn more about getting involved.
The Council also discussed the upcoming carwash and tag sale scheduled for May 17th to raise funds for the Youth Mission Trip. This tag sale will feature inventory remaining from last October's Apple Country Fair Tag Sale.
Many members have wondered what happens to unsold items after the Fair. While some goods go into storage for future sales and some are donated to charities, a significant amount must be taken to the Brookfield Transfer Station—at a cost to the Church that reduces our Fair revenue.
To address this issue, Apple Country Fair Tag Sale leaders have developed a list of items they will no longer accept for donation. These restricted items typically don't sell well, leaving the Church to pay for their disposal. The complete list will appear in this newsletter. Please keep these guidelines in mind when considering items to donate to future tag sales.
Finally, our Church values the energy our youngest church members bring to our congregation. However, members of the Congregation have raised concerns about potential accidents during coffee hour involving running children. While spilled drinks are a minor concern (though hot beverages could pose a danger), we're more worried about collisions that could cause adults to fall, be injured, or children to injure themselves on tables and chairs. Nobody wants to see anyone get hurt. The Council felt obligated to highlight this concern to hopefully prevent an accident.
Faithfully,
